On the last day of the three-day Project Management Confer- ence, India 2009, just hours be- fore the curtain came down, attendees witnessed a moving
and memorable moment: Volunteers
from PMI Team India (all seven PMI
chapters in India), accompanied by the
core organizing committee, came onto
the dais for a photo call. Moments later
there was a spontaneous standing ova-
tion from the audience. It was a tribute
to the power of volunteerism and the
project management skills of the group,
which put together a phenomenal show.
The PMI India Conference, organized
in Hyderabad, attracted more than 700
delegates from around the country. A
key objective of the conference was to
highlight the relevance of project man-
agement across sectors. This was ful-
filled via thought leaders from various
industries speaking about using project
management to transform organizations.
Raj Kalady, managing director of
PMI India, had set high standards.
“PMI has been holding global con-
gresses across four regions worldwide,”
he said. “We decided to have a national-
level conference on a similar scale in
India. It didn’t take much convincing
on my part at any forum. Almost unani-
