Langley Named
PMI President and CEO
he PMI Board of Directors has
named Mark A. Langley as its
new president and CEO upon
Gregory Balestrero’s retirement from
PMI on 1 January 2011. Mr. Langley has
been PMI’s executive vice president and
chief operating officer since 2002.

CONTENTS
The Board approved Mr. Langley’s
appointment after an extensive global
search led by recruiting firm Korn/Ferry
following the April announcement of
Mr. Balestrero’s retirement from PMI.
Mr. Langley and Mr. Balestrero will work
closely to ensure a smooth transition,
said Mr. Bounds.

“The Board chose Mark Langley for his
keen strategic insights regarding build-
ing member and organization value,
formulating and leading operational
vision, strategy and direction, and for
his energy and passion for project
management,” said PMI Chair Eugene
Bounds, PMP. “He will build on the
Board’s overall strategic direction and
provide executive leadership to advance
PMI as the largest and most influential
project management association.”
Mr. Langley joined PMI as director of
finance and administration, and was
promoted in the same year to executive
vice president and COO. He has nearly
30 years of experience in strategic plan-
ning, global business, association man-
agement, operations and financial
management. During his tenure, Mr.
Langley has been instrumental in grow-
ing PMI’s worldwide membership and

The winners will begin their service on the
Board on 1 January 2011, but will also par-
ticipate in some Board transition activi-
