Veterans Transition Event is Well Received
Tthe field of project management. Attendees left with
ideas to further their
transition to project
management and
gained significant
growth in their
personal network.
An additional benefit
of the event was
dozens of potential
new members for
the PMI Metrolina
Chapter.
The PMI Metrolina
Chapter is one of 60 chapters adopting
the PMI military outreach initiative,
supporting their local PMI chapter
and military communities around
the United States. The impetus for
the push throughout PMI is the
certain belief that the military service
members already perform project
management, just using military
methods and vernacular. Through the
Program for Preparing U.S. Military
for Project Management Careers, PMI
chapters around
the country assist
military personnel
and veterans
in providing
information about
certification
and enabling
them to network
to help them
obtain rewarding
civilian jobs. The
program also
supports a high-
quality project
management
workforce.
This event was sponsored by Teachers
Insurance and Annuity Association
of America (TIAA); Central Piedmont
Community College; University of
North Carolina, Charlotte; Sherpa; Duke
Energy; Patriots Path; and Mecklenburg
County Veteran Assistance. The sponsors
provided a fantastic setting for the event
at the TIAA campus and provided a
copy of The Transitioning Military Project
Manager for each attendee. This book
was co-authored by Jay Hicks, a guest
speaker at the event.
The interest in the Project Management
Professional (PMP)® certification
and the project management career
field was extraordinary at the PMI
Metrolina Chapter event. The day was
action-packed, providing tremendous
information for veterans and military
personnel actively seeking project
management as a future career.
