PMI GAC Accredits
Its First Latin
American Project
Management
Program
The Master in
Project Management (MPM)
program at the
Universidad para la
Cooperación Internacional/
University for International
Cooperation, located in
Costa Rica, has become the
first project management
program in Latin America
to receive accreditation by
the PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project
Management (GAC).
The MPM program,
established in 1994, focuses
on providing young profes-
sionals with practical skills
needed for achieving success
in the management of projects. It uses both face-to-face
and online learning formats,
and has established ties with
the local PMI chapter to provide a needed connection
between academic knowledge and practice.
Many of the program’s
faculty members, adminis-
trative officials and alumni
are active members of the
PMI Costa Rica Chapter.
Their participation in the
students’ learning provides
real-world experience and
networking opportunities
for future career advance-
ment. PMI chapter mem-
bers are also valuable
assets to the college and
university community in
general, as their project
management skills
and experience offer universities the link between
industry and academia.
Program accreditation
through PMI GAC confirms
that the scale and quality of
an institution’s project management degree program
meets a comprehensive
international standard.
The newly accredited
program joins 54 other project management degree
programs at 23 schools in
nine countries that have
attained GAC accreditation.
Nine other programs are
in the process of accreditation. More information
about the GAC, as well as
a directory of accredited
and candidate programs,
can be found at www.
PMI.org/accreditation.
